Tom is shown here returning pieces of shrapnel to leaders of the repopulated community of Ellacuria. These remnants from American bombs fell on the community in February 1990, killing 14 people. In response to the bombing,, Bishop visited the community and then brought home the shrapnel to use as proof of the U.S.’s direct involvement in targeting civilians during the Salvadoran civil war..
